Immigration Docs & Notarization in 2025: What You Actually Need to Know

July 29, 2025

Skip the confusion and find out when you do (and don’t) need a notary for your immigration paperwork

Let’s Be Real: Immigration Paperwork Can Be A Lot

Filling out immigration forms in 2025? Yeah, it’s not exactly a walk in the park. There’s a lot to keep track of:

  • Forms
  • Deadlines
  • Legal terms that sound like they belong in a courtroom drama

On top of all that, one big question we get all the time is "Do I need to get this notarized or not?

The answer? It depends. But don’t worry we’ll break it all down so you know exactly when a notary is helpful, when it’s a must, and when you can skip it.

First Off, What Is Notarization?

A notary’s job is to check your ID, make sure you’re aware of what you are signing and willing to do so! Once they do that, they notarize the document, and you can move on to the next step with your documents.

What If You Are Not

a US Citizen?

No U.S. ID? No problem

  • If you are not a US citizen or do not have a US issued ID we can still notarize your documents.

  • If you are not a US citizen or do not have a US issued ID we can still notarize your documents.

We work with notaries in biometric verification states that are legally allowed to notarize documents for foreign nationals. The best part, this is all conducted virtually so if you or your client don’t want to leave the house you don’t need to.

  • That means even if you are using a passport or other international ID we can help you get your documents notarized securely and legally.

It’s a great option for people living abroad or going through the immigration process without US Identification.

Quick PSA:

Notaries Aren’t Lawyers

We can witness signatures, check IDs, and notarize documents but giving legal advice is a no go unless your notary is also a licensed immigration attorney.

So if you’re not sure which forms to fill out or what to include, talk to an immigration lawyer first.
