My First Dual Role Day

Balancing Marketing, Scheduling, and My Own Signing

When I first started my position with The Nearby Notary, I wasn’t sure how long it would take me to adjust. I had prior experience working in legal marketing, which definitely helped me understand concepts and key terminology—but stepping into the notary world was an entirely new experience.

No one really talks about how much there is to learn when you enter the notary realm. I spent hours watching training videos, taking notes, and preparing to step into two very different roles: marketing and on-call scheduling (and, eventually, becoming a notary myself).

When I finally received my commission, I felt confident—I knew the documents, the process, and the terminology. But only about a week into scheduling and training alongside our seasoned notary and scheduling team, I felt completely lost. And honestly? That’s totally okay. Nothing feels easy right away. There’s always going to be a learning curve, especially when you’re learning both the client-facing and notary-facing sides of the business.

Learning Through Both Lenses

Having marketing experience helped me see the notary process differently. I realized that understanding notarial procedures wasn’t just helpful for my own development—it was crucial for creating content that resonates with both notaries and clients.

On platforms like TikTok, I noticed that notaries are hungry for information about how to improve their skills and increase their earning potential. We often hear about how it’s possible to make up to $200 per signing—but it’s not as simple as it sounds. It takes *practice, precision,* and professionalism.

From my perspective as a scheduler, we look for notaries who have completed numerous flawless signings, received strong feedback, and demonstrated professionalism under pressure. The best notaries are those who:

  • Respond well to feedback
  • Communicate clearly and proactively
  • Ask questions when needed (instead of taking matters into their own hands)
  • Remain flexible—whether that means dropping off to title, accommodating last-minute changes, or assisting with special requests

Those qualities build trust not only with our team, but also with our title, escrow, legal, and financial partners.

The Day Everything Clicked

The first time I balanced all three roles—marketer, scheduler, and notary—was the day everything came together. I started my morning reviewing marketing drafts and scheduling updates, then quickly shifted into notary mode for a same-day signing.

Printing the documents, preparing my notary journal, and meeting the clients in person gave me a new appreciation for the people behind each order I schedule. Every small note left in the order—special instructions, document flags, signer preferences—suddenly made perfect sense.

That day taught me empathy for both sides. As a notary, I understood the importance of clear instructions and communication. As a scheduler, I saw how much trust our team places in each notary we assign. And as a marketer, I realized how meaningful it is to share these real experiences that define our work.

Balancing It All

Juggling multiple roles isn’t always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding. Wearing different hats forces you to slow down, stay organized, and truly listen—to your teammates, your clients, and your own instincts.

Now, when I talk about what The Nearby Notary offers—whether it’s secure signings, legal document preparation, or flexible scheduling—I speak from experience. I’ve lived the details, learned the process, and seen firsthand how much care goes into every single signing.

It’s not just about notarizing a signature or sending out a document. It’s about creating an experience that feels seamless, professional, and trustworthy—for everyone involved.
